The technical note gives basic information about how to use the LapSnapper Lap Timing System with the slot cars.

LapSnapper Lap Timing System for Slot Cars product includes all necessary components for the two lanes and slot cars except Android smart device. The system can be build two different ways (2 options):

Option 1: LapSnapper Transponders (Indoor) are installed inside the slot cars

In the option 1 the LapSnapper Transponders (Indoor) are installed inside the slot cars and the LapSnapper Magnetic Strip 1.2 m based magnetic strip are installed below or above the race track. The option works for the unlimited amount of the racers (Slot cars) and lanes. The option can be also handle the lane changes of the slot cars. The option requires that there are enough room for the LapSnapper Transponders (Indoor) in the slot cars.

Option 2: LapSnapper Transponders are installed below the lanes

In the option 2 the LapSnapper Transponders are installed below the lanes and the slot car magnets are installed inside the slot cars. The motor magnet of the slot car may be enough for the operation of the LapSnapper system, if the structure of race track is thin. This means the extra magnets aren’t required to the slot cars. This option is the simplest way to build the system. This option is also good, when there are not enough room for the LapSnapper Transponders in the slot cars. Disadvantage is that the option is not optimal, when there are many racers or the slot cars are changing the lanes.

Normally timing operator is few of meters away from the start/finish line. The recommended distance from the start/finish line to the LapSnapper Decoder is 7 to 10 m. LapSnapper Decoder has to be connected to the Android device and timing operator uses the Android device. The distance from the Android device to the LapSnapper Decoder can be extended by using USB 2.0 expansion cable (Max. 30 m) or USB 2.0 RJ45 extender (Max. 100 m).

External display(s) can be added to the system by connecting it to the HDMI connector of the Android device.

WiFi network is not mandatory but it is needed, when the LapSnapper Client Software or the wireless printer are used. WiFi network can be build by using WiFi router or by creating a WiFi hotspot by any smart device.

The race results can be printed to the paper by using a wireless printer. It requires the printer and Android printer application from the printer manufacturer. Printer applications are available in the Google Play Store.

LapSnapper supports a LapSnapper Server, which makes it possible to connect third party applications to the LapSnapper system such as own lap time measurement applications, third party race management software, scoreboards, etc.
